While most of the cabin options on the ship are similar to those found on other ships — including oceanview, balcony, and suites — there are some newer options that may be ideal for your cruise. On board the ship you’ll find many of the features you’ve come to expect from Carnival’s ships, but also a few things that are unique to the Vista-class ships. For example, you’ll find the popular Guy’s Burger Joint and RedFrog Pub, which are on nearly every Carnival liner. But you’ll also find some more unique features like Havana Cabanas, Family Harbor staterooms, the IMAX theater and more.

The Horizon cruise ship offers an expanded "Seuss at Sea" kids program with its "Dr. Suess WaterWorks" (themed water park). The aquapark has 2 distinctly different waterslides (location Deck 12). That said, we think most of these items are almost the bare minimum on a modern cruise ship. There is an IMAX and Thrill Theater (where the seats move with the action on the screen). The lounge sits near the rooms so families don’t have to go far — or even use an elevator — to reach it.

We were happy to see the modern decor and furnishings compared to other Carnival ships we have sailed. Horizon CasinoOf course, Carnival Horizon has a bustling casino. Located in the middle of the ship, it features its own center bar (complete with a “plume” similar to the main rotunda). SkyRide allows you to sit in a reclined pedal seat, and then off you go, pedaling above the ship’s top deck, giving you amazing views of the entire ship, as well as the water and horizons beyond. The ride allows two cruisers to sit side by side, so you can enjoy the view with your favorite fellow cruiser. There are other for-a-fee dining options, of course, and not all of them are the average Carnival offerings. There are even some room service menu items that you can get for free.
This theater is much smaller than the IMAX but features 3-D, seats that move and even fans that will blow air to make it feel like you are in the movie. The films showed at this theater are cheaper — you get three short movies (totaling about 30 minutes or so) for $5.50 per person. As an adult, we felt there simply weren’t a lot for us to do outside of the casino, shows, and drinking. Waterslides were Dr. Suess-themed and not really geared toward anyone older than 12 (however, the did seem like a blast for kids). There were two small pools available, but they seemed constantly filled to the brim with people.
Lunches aren't provided on sea days, but on shore days, kids can enjoy lunch in the Lido Marketplace, while parents are ashore. Horizon's main dining rooms offer kids menus as part of a dinner-time coloring book, with fun distraction features like word finds and mazes. FFor children ages 2 to 11, Carnival Horizon offers Camp Ocean, located on Deck 11, midship. The colorful, creative space features an ocean motif, and programming focuses on things like active play, arts and crafts, music, and science and discovery -- many of which are inspired by the ocean.
It butts up against the Dr. Seuss WaterWorks space, which has colorful seats and umbrellas. Carnival Horizon doesn't have a true kiddie pool, though the tykes will love the ship's splash zone. Children must be potty-trained to use any of the pools or water play areas. Carnival ships have a coin that’s mounted on the ship that acts a memento of its construction. If you like to hunt for these coins, you’ll find the Horizon’s on deck 14, just forward of the Dr. Suess Waterworks. There are a couple of restaurants — Pig & Anchor Smokehouse and Cucina del Capitano — that have free options at lunch, even though you have to pay to eat here at dinner.
